Beginning with the telecast of The
Winds of Victory on January 27, 2007, the National Geographic
Channel in India aired a series of 14 animation films based on
children's stories written by Dr Ikeda. The half hour films were
shown in English and Hindi in South Asian countries every Saturday
till April 28, 2007, as part of channel's educational programmes
for children. The series included The Cherry Tree, The
Princess and the Moon and The Snow Country Prince.
Children have always been dear to Dr Ikeda. They are his
"precious emissaries from the future". When he thinks of
hem, he feels "compelled to instill in their hearts an
unwavering commitment to peace and a vision of a beautiful
world". Believing this to be the adult generations foremost
responsibility, he has written children's stories as way of
fulfilling that responsibility, a way of planting in their hearts
the seeds of justice, courage, hope, earnestness and kindness.
Translated into many languages, these stories have been
introduced to children across the world through delightful
illustrations by Bristish illustrator of children's literature,
Brian Wildsmith. And now as animated versions, they are touching
the lives of many more "precious young emissaries" in
the sub-continent.
